Every parcel which your company sends out is important. Frequently, it is
important to know the delivery status of what you send. Now the United States
Postal Service makes this easy and affordable with their new parcel
Delivery Confirmation service. Each parcel processed with the USPS is
identified with a unique identification number which is bar coded within a
special compliant shipping/mailing label. Using a new dedicated USPS package
tracking system the parcel’s status is recorded at the time of delivery as to
being delivered, attempted delivered, forwarded, or returned. All this
information is accessible within 24-72 hours from USPS through the Internet,
telephone, or via electronic file transfer.
Delivery Confirmation is a value enhancement service offered on
Priority Mail™ and Standard Mail B. [Standard Mail B includes Parcel Select,
Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter, Special Standard Mail, and Library Mail.]
Delivery Confirmation comes in two options: "Electronic Service"
and "Retail Service". With both options in addition to status you receive
detailed information about the parcel including the date, time, and ZIP Code of
delivery. The Delivery Confirmation service is priced individually
based on the class of mail and the service option. Fees vary from No Charge to
$.60 per piece. Other special services such as insured mail, registered mail,
collect on delivery (COD), and special handling may be combined with
Delivery Confirmation.
The "Electronic Service" Delivery Confirmation option is
offered at No Charge as long as mailers process their parcels via a "USPS
Certified Delivery Confirmation" software such as our Neopost
FriendShip® 600 Series. The software transmits an end-of-day electronic
manifest file containing package level detail (PLD) information to the USPS host
computer. Delivery information about the package may be obtained by either
downloading the entire file automatically with the software or making individual
inquires via the USPS web site or 800# telephone access line.
The "Retail Service" Delivery Confirmation option allows
the mailer to either print their own bar coded compliant labels or use pre-
printed labels provided by the USPS. Record the PLD package information
manually, add the appropriate fee to the parcel postage, and then deliver the
package to your local Post Office to be scanned into the USPS host computer
system.
Using the Delivery Confirmation service now allows
shippers/mailers to have the peace of mind you expect from commercial carriers
with the huge per piece cost savings of the USPS. Plus, you can get the added
savings of FREE packaging for qualified Priority Mail™ users or "Work Sharing"
bulk discounts for higher volume shippers. Our FriendShip® software is
also MAC Certified for mail manifesting. So whether you are a
shipper or mailer; metering or manifesting your mail; supervisor or manager; the
Delivery Confirmation service from the USPS offers another tool to
maximize the productivity in your mailing/shipping operation.
